Several groups have their own performance or exhibit spaces, while others make use of school and auditoriums, churches, parks, concert halls, fairgrounds and libraries. The Minot Area Council on the Arts sponsors a number of events during the year including summer Arts in the Parks and Arts in the Schools featuring local artists. Local community theatre groups, including the Mouse River Players and Minot Area Theatrical Society, also perform plays throughout the year. It develops and disseminates technology important to the production and utilization of food, feed, fiber and fuel from crop and livestock enterprises. The North Dakota Agricultural Experiment Station is located in Minot. NORTH DAKOTA AGRICULTURAL EXPERIMENT STATION. The Minot area has used a number of imported insects to control leafy spurge, a very destructive range weed. In June, visitors can see one of the nation's top leafy spurge bio-control programs. The largest is a 500-cow facility located in Sandhills of nearby Towner.īIO-CONTROL OF NOXIOUS WEEDS. Dairy farms of all sizes can be visited in the area. Combines, air seeders and other large equipment are built or assembled in the Minot Area.ĭAIRY FARMS. Large modern grain farms surround the Minot area. Other exotic animals are raised in North Dakota, including buffalo (bison), ostrich, emu, elk, and llamas. Nationally known ranches raise purebred Charolais, Saler, Angus, Semmental, Herford, and Limousin cattle. A large portion of the surrounding countryside is devoted to raising cattle. Real ranch life can be observed by visiting area ranches. ![]() One of the world's three major canola-processing plants is located in nearby Velva, and a new manufacturing plant is being built on the outskirts of Minot. North Dakota is a leading state in the production of semolina and canola oil. An ADM oilseed crushing plant and a durum milling plant are examples of agricultural processing plants in the Minot area.
